Understanding the Term “Unto Salvation”

understanding the term “unto salvation”. The word “unto” is used in what’s described as a function word to indicate reference or concern, as we will see in the following verse which is Romans 1:16 which talks about the gospel of Christ being the power of God “unto salvation”; which means that the gospel of Christ is unto salvation; or in reference to salvation; or concerning salvation.

Romans 1:16

Authorized (King James) Version

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

The gospel concerns salvation because this is the major thing that someone needs to put their faith in for salvation since we cannot save ourselves as we are not righteous and that the gift of eternal life is a gift and is not earned by us. According to 1Corinthians 15:1-4 and Romans 3:25, you need faith in Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, and faith in Jesus’ blood; these things are of God’s work to save you; we cannot save ourselves. You also need faith in Him, regarding who Jesus is as God and the Saviour, this is implied because a normal man’s blood can’t do anything; Jesus is God and this is why it is God’s literal, actual, physical blood that is the payment for our sins and is precious, and you also to have faith in His faith, yes you need faith in Jesus’ faith, Jesus had faith too, its how He took the death of the cross.

Hebrews 12:2

Authorized (King James) Version

“2 looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Jesus had a struggle but we know He endured, and made the cross a victory with His resurrection.

Matthew 26:37-43

Authorized (King James) Version

“37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. 38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. 39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. 43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.”

Romans 1:16

Authorized (King James) Version

Galatians 2:20

Authorized (King James) Version

“20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

2 Timothy 2:10-14

Authorized (King James) Version

“10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 12 if we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 13 if we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. 14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.”

Romans 5:6-8

Authorized (King James) Version

“6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

1 Thessalonians 4:14

Authorized (King James) Version

“14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.”

Isaiah 64:6

and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;

and we all do fade as a leaf;

and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”

17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper;

and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.

This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,
