The Lord Jesus Christ is The Rock, and other foundational and additional things.

This study will cover many different subjects such as Jesus being The Rock, our foundation, also blood, water, the rock of Horeb, and I tried to organize it in a way that blends these subjects together well.

Psalm 18:2

Authorized (King James) Version

2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

my God, my strength, in whom I will trust;

my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

Deuteronomy 32:4

Authorized (King James) Version

4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect:

for all his ways are judgment:

a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

The scriptures show that a rock is a good foundation, Jesus being the author and finisher of our faith, is the best and only rock for us to trust in for salvation.

Matthew 7:24-27

Authorized (King James) Version

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Another warning as well as some additional scriptures is here in the last few verses of Galatians chapter 2, and then we will continue into Galatians chapter 3 up to verse 14, you can continue reading of course and you should, but for this video we will stop at verse 14 of chapter 3.

Galatians 2:16-21

Authorized (King James) Version

16 knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. 17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid. 18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. 19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. 20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

Galatians 3:1-14

Authorized (King James) Version

3 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? 2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? 4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. 5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. 7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. 8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. 9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. 10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. 11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. 12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. 13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

1 Corinthians 3:10-16

Authorized (King James) Version

10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. 14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Exodus 17:5-7

Authorized (King James) Version

5 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go. 6 Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?

I believe it’s the same rod used in Exodus 7 to smite the water to turn them into blood, which ends up being a bad thing for the Egyptians.

Water becoming blood is also seen in:

Exodus 4:9

Authorized (King James) Version

9 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.

Water and blood agreeing with one another is seen in:

1 John 5:7-8

Authorized (King James) Version

7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

Here is another verse containing water and blood:

We see if The Rock is smitten (Jesus being pierced with a spear), water comes out of it, just like it did in the rock of Horeb

John 19:34

Authorized (King James) Version

34 but one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

Water being important for life as we know, but also spiritually speaking water is important. Not mentioned are water baptism verses but again, water being an important thing for a Christian. Now just so you know, water baptism doesn’t save, but I feel if you are saved it’s a good thing to be water baptized in Jesus’ name. Just make sure its from a brother in Christ. Lets look at some verses I found interesting:

John 7:38

Authorized (King James) Version

38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

Revelation 7:17

Authorized (King James) Version

17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

Water being important for life, as well as blood important for life as we know but here are some instances showing not to eat blood, this also applies to the New Testament as well:

Genesis 9:4

Authorized (King James) Version

4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

Leviticus 17:14

Authorized (King James) Version

14 For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.

Acts 15:20

Authorized (King James) Version

20 but that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

Acts 15:29

Authorized (King James) Version

29 that ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

Blood and wine are spiritually related as we will see later on when we get to verses in John chapter 6 and this is why I believe The Lord Jesus turns water into wine,

John 2:1-12

Authorized (King James) Version

And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 and both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. 6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. 7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. 9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10 and saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. 11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they continued there not many days.

John 4:46

Authorized (King James) Version

46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

Here Jesus is talking spiritually about drinking wine as blood to receive Him. He isn’t talking about drinking blood, its spiritual.

John 6:53-55

Authorized (King James) Version

53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

1 Corinthians 11:25

Authorized (King James) Version

25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

Now back to water again,

Numbers 20:10-13

Authorized (King James) Version

10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? 11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

12 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them. 13 This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

Now the next couple verses aren’t about a “rock” for instance, but this is prophecy showing Jesus who we know IS THE ROCK, will be described as the man that is being talked about in verse 15 and it came up when trying to come up with this study, by using the keyword Horeb in Bible Gateway’s search engine to see what verses come up because I wanted to see if there were other references to the rock of Horeb.

Deuteronomy 18:15-17

Authorized (King James) Version

15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; 16 according to all that thou desiredst of the LORD thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. 17 And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.

As an interesting side note while doing the study and reading a bit about the covenant. Deuteronomy 29, also shows a possible salvation loss, so back in “old testament times” if you don’t rightly divide, you’ll see there people being blotted out of heaven in verse 20, read the chapter of the book of Deuteronomy chapter 29.

Another side note since there are a lot of Bible references to Horeb, I just thought I’d share these:

1 Kings 8:8-11

Authorized (King James) Version

8 And they drew out the staves, that the ends of the staves were seen out in the holy place before the oracle, and they were not seen without: and there they are unto this day. 9 There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. 10 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.

I hope this message helps everyone from young brothers and sisters in the faith to the more experienced brothers and sisters in the faith. Thank you for your time.
